There are a few products I found really helpful during my weaning process for when you are home and when you are out and about.
At about 4 months when he could sit up I started to put him into a high chair and play with a spoon and bowl so he became use to it.
I brought the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair and love it (it even has his name engraved on the back) and will last him until he can sit at the table on an adult chair.
I got him the Bamboo Bamboo suction bowl and spoon so he couldn’t throw it off the table!
For when you are out and about a portable high chair is essential. I have been seen to use it attached to a park bench to give him his lunch! So many places don’t have high chairs and if your little one is as independent as Rudy they won’t want to sit on your lap and you won’t want them to either as it gets very messy! I got the Mountain Buggy Pod.
The ezpz sticky plates are brilliant for baby led weaning when you are out. I have the mini mat and keep it in my changing bag all the time.
Weaning is messy, really really messy especially if you let them feed themselves which I think is great for development. Rudy loves nothing more than to squidge food through his fingers and the enjoyment on his face is wonderful to watch.
There are times when they just won’t eat because of teething. When this was the case with Rudy I used reusable pouches from Nom Nom and he was much happier that way. A few distractions also helped like a bubble machine, music and feeding the dog of course! The lovely instagram community gave me some great ideas like using a metal spoon for him to feed himself which also got him eating again for some reason. When it was awful cartoons were the only thing that worked! Us mums have got to do what we have to do to get a good night sleep!!!
